Nel momento in cui mi preparo a varcare le mura del carcere della Santé, i miei pensieri vanno alle francesi e ai francesi di ogni condizione e opinione. Voglio dire loro, con la forza incrollabile che mi appartiene, che non è un ex Presidente della Repubblica che viene incarcerato questa mattina, ma un innocente. Continuerò a denunciare questo scandalo giudiziario, questo calvario che sopporto da oltre dieci anni. Ecco dunque un caso di finanziamento illecito senza il minimo finanziamento! Un’indagine giudiziaria protratta nel tempo, avviata sulla base di un documento la cui falsità è ormai accertata. Non chiedo alcun vantaggio, alcuna grazia. Non sono da compatire, perché la mia voce ha peso. Non sono da compatire perché mia moglie e i miei figli sono al mio fianco, e i miei amici sono innumerevoli. Ma questa mattina provo un profondo dolore per la Francia, che si trova umiliata dall’espressione di una vendetta che ha portato l’odio a un livello senza precedenti. Non ho dubbi: la verità trionferà. Ma il prezzo da pagare sarà stato schiacciante…

“Au moment où je m’apprête à franchir les murs de la prison de la Santé, mes pensées vont vers les Françaises et les Français de toutes conditions et de toutes opinions. Je veux leur dire avec la force inébranlable qui est la mienne que ce n’est pas un ancien Président de la République que l’on enferme ce matin c’est un innocent. Je continuerai à dénoncer ce scandale judiciaire, ce chemin de croix que je subis depuis plus de 10 ans. Voilà donc une affaire de financement illégal sans le moindre financement ! Une instruction judiciaire au long cours lancée sur la base d’un document dont la fausseté est désormais établie. Je ne demande aucun avantage, aucune faveur. Je ne suis pas à plaindre, car ma voix porte. Je ne suis pas à plaindre parce que ma femme et mes enfants sont à mes côtés, et mes amis sont innombrables. Mais ce matin, j’éprouve une peine profonde pour la France qui se trouve humiliée par l’expression d’une vengeance qui a porté la haine à un niveau inégalé. Je n’ai pas de doute. La vérité triomphera. Mais que le prix à payer aura été écrasant…
